Who Wants To Be A Billionaire?

My friend has a business idea. He also has a plan.
His plan is to build his business and sell it for $100 million dollars within 5 years.
I asked a simple question: “Why only $100 million? Why is that the number? Why not $1 billion?”
I don’t care how much he sells his business for. But I was curious where his limitations were. How he came up with the number he came up with.
His answer: “Well - I want to have some control over my schedule, to spend time with my family. To make $1 billion I’d have to work too hard.”
Me: “How many hours a week would you have to work?”
Him: “Probably 80-100 hours a week if I wanted to make $1 billion dollars.”
Me: “How much do you work right now?”
Him: “About 80 hours a week.”
“Are you making $1 billion dollars now?”
“No.”
I could see the light going on.
Here’s the thing he realized: Making a billion dollars doesn’t require an inordinate amount of work. I know that there are some famous workaholics who are also billionaires, and so it’s easy to conflate the hard work with the money. But it isn’t really the hard work that’s driving the money.
Ideas are what make money.
Everything that has ever existed in the world, made by man, began with an idea. A vision.
Pick anyone who is a billionaire -- they aren’t solely that wealthy because they work the hardest or the longest hours.
Those people are billionaires because of a billion-dollar idea. A vision that is worth a billion dollars.
The hard work comes after the idea -- but even then, those who work those hours are driven by the vision. They love the work they do. They are inspired. It doesn’t really feel like “work”.
We limit ourselves in so many ways because we believe that to make money we need to work a certain number of hours. We need to grind, work harder, hustle.
We believe that $1 billion dollars “isn’t for me”. Or that “money is evil”. Or that “people with money are selfish and gross”. These were a few of mine for a long time.
But what’s actually true is that money is a form of energy. And it will flow, just as all energy flows, to a place of expansion. The amount that flows to us is based on vision…the vision we have for ourselves -- for who we are becoming, for what we are creating in the world. Money wants to move towards expansion. The bigger our vision, the more money wants to be a part of it.
We just need to get out of the way. We need to stop creating resistance -- “it’ll take too much of my time” or “I don’t want to be greedy” or “I could never make that much”. These are all beliefs that limit our potential. And they rob the world of our greatness.
I don’t care whether you make $100 or $1 billion -- the amount you choose to make isn’t the point. The point is that you don’t create limitations for yourself that were built on beliefs that aren’t true.
